About Me
My personal philosophy is aptly described by these three favored quotes:
"No matter what our attempts to inform, it is our ability to inspire that will turn the tides." (quote promoted by Syracuse Cultural Workers, author unknown)
"It is not enough to be compassionate, you must act." (quote promoted by Syracuse Cultural Workers, author unknown)
"When I dare to be powerful -- to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." -- Audre Lorde (1934-1992)

Hello and welcome to jonquil's journal journey blog! Jonquil will be my teacher/personal reflective journal, blogblossoms (also a tabulas blog) I hope will become a class/group shared journal space.
I became aware of blogging through a pre-TESOL conference online course offering -- amazingly FREE opportunity through which I am learning a lot!
Please read on if you are curious to review the random babblings and reflections of a self-described 'eclectic with tangential tendencies' ! I shall likely babble often about teaching ESOL, my beautiful now 18-year-old daughter Amber, my dreams of traveling and teaching abroad, flowers, poetry, walking, nature, racism (undoing racism efforts, race reparations yes/no, the importance of eye contact and dialogue, etc), homophobia, old-home ownership, gardening (oh the prolific weeds!), pugs (we have two -- Jeebz and Joplin), turning 50, commuting to work, theatre, Vespas, hybrid cars, etc. -- sometimes all at once!
I think I'm posting (I'm trying to!) reasonably recent photos of Amber (my daughter) on prom night, HS graduation photo, with her Dad and my brother Scott at a holiday dinner a few years back. . . more photos will hopefully be posted soon.
